Carehaus and National Public Housing Museum work with Marisa Moran Jahn

Much of this work is currently on-going so I will be updating as it is more publicly available but I had the honor and pleasure of working as Marisa Moran Jahn’s studio assistant and supporting the efforts going into commissioned work for the National Public Housing museum in Chicago and Carehaus in Baltimore.

My roles: materials research and prototyping for public art sculpture Hoopcycle at National Publicm Museum of Housing. Archival photo restoration, mural and installation planning for an upcoming work to be shown at both Carehaus in Baltimore and the National Public Housing museum in Chiago, celebrating the community organizers who worked to make public housing possible.

HOOPcycle’s design reinterprets the Meso-American tradition of papel picado (“perforated paper”) in which the holes — like portals —are said to let the past come through. Aside from the functional aspect of the holes (to let wind pass through and reduce weight), the ornamentation celebrates the game as an important form of cultural expression.
